Senior crime cop succumbs to injuries
published: Monday | September 4, 2006

Walker

THE WEEKLY Crime Management meeting at the Police Commissioner's Office this morning will not be the same without crime officer, Superintendent Corneilius 'Calf' Walker.

Superintendent Walker, 53, succumbed to his injuries at hospital early yesterday morning. He was hospitalised in critical condition following a motor vehicle accident in downtown Kingston, two Saturdays ago.

"I don't think the meeting can go on without him. It will be difficult for us to come to terms with the fact that he is gone," a shaken Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Cornwall 'Bigga' Ford, head of the Flying Squad team, told The Gleaner yesterday.

According to the Constabulary Communications Network (CCN), Superintendent Walker was driving his Honda CRV motor car in downtown Kingston, on August 26, when he collided with a Toyota Corolla motor car at the intersection of Harbour and Pechon streets.

Superintendent Walker sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital. After more than a week in a coma, the crime fighter died.

"It is very heartrending. He was like a brother," DSP Ford said.

"Many were expecting the worst, but I was not. I was expecting him to pull through. He loves life and he is a fighter," he added. "We never expected him to go this way. The Big Man (God) knows what is best. I thank the Big Man for the opportunity to meet 'Calf' on life's journey."

Superintendent Walker served the Jamaica Constabulary Force for more than 30 years.
