Two men killed in Westmoreland
published: Monday | September 4, 2006

Dalton Laing, Gleaner Writer

Two men are dead, a third is critical in hospital, and two young girls have filed reports of rape in the district of Geneva, West-moreland after at least three armed men went on a rampage in that community early yesterday morning.

At about 3:30 yesterday morning members of the community of Ghetto in Geneva, Grange Hill, reportedly heard moaning sounds and a person crying for help saying he was stabbed. On investigation a man from the community, known as Ricardo Robinson, was found at the back of premises, where a house is under construction, with stab wounds to his neck and back.

Further checks by residents led to the discovery of another man, 31-year-old Glenroy Arnett, of Burnt Savannah, about 10 feet away and also suffering from several stab wounds. Both men were taken to the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital where Arnett was pronounced dead and Robinson was admitted in serious but stable condition.

About 8 o'clock yesterday morning a returning resident, 73-year-old Roy Wellers, was found dead with several stab wounds in a vegetable garden at the back of his house.

Reports are that his great-grandson, Ricardo Wellers, who lives with him, got suspicious when he could not be found. He immediately reported the matter to the Morgan's Bridge police, who were dealing with the previous murder case. Ricardo was later informed of his great-grandfather's death.

The senior citizen was dis-covered in the garden, carefully covered with a sheet and several branches from gungo peas plants and cuttings from a pear tree.

Meanwhile, two young girls from the community have reported to the Morgan's Bridge police that they were also sexually assaulted early yesterday. The police, who believe one group of individuals is responsible for all three attacks, said they were following strong leads and should have a break in the case soon.
