Thumbs up to Errol Green
published: Monday | September 4, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Thumbs up to Mr. Errol Green of the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA), who displayed fortitude and gave his cellphone number on air for people to call concerning their garbage disposal problems.

I challenge all politicians and public sector workers to do likewise and enable persons to call in respect of problems within your respective purview.

Also, is it really true that these important individuals are always in meetings as we are often told by their secretaries.

One gave way for the Jamaica Labour Party to win the next election, in my view, is if it tried for an agreement among its representatives to give their cell phone numbers publicly, keep the phone on during work hours, and have the courtesy to answer whenever called.

This would go to the heart of responsiveness and I suspect if it ever became a reality, career politicians would become endangered species.

I am, etc.,

DERRICK SIMON
