Real Mona claim U-13 title
published: Monday | September 4, 2006

Robert Bailey, Gleaner Writer

Real Mona won the 2006 KSAFA/Milo Under-13 football title after defeating Rae Town 3-1 on penalties on Saturday at the Barbican football field.

Rae Town dominated the first half, but failed to capitalise on their chances as weak finishing from the likes of Patrick Brown and Oshane Booth contributed to their down fall.

Real Mona's captain Omar Holness got the best chance for his team in the first half but his long-range effort was tipped over the crossbar by goalkeeper Linell McKenzie.

The second period was evenly contested but both teams missed clear chances.

Brown, after receiving a through pass from captain teammate Kereem Manning, had a shot at goal but saw his right-footed effort spectacularly saved by goalkeeper Amal Knight diving to his right.

Meanwhile, Real Mona's Adam Cummings got the best chance for his team but his close- range shot was a very weak one.

In extra time both teams had difficulty scoring as the game headed for penalty kicks.

Patrick Brown was the only Rae Town player to score a spot kick, as Booth and Michael Brown all failed to convert their penalty kicks. Real Mona's Khaamal Scott, Adam Beek and Holness all scored from the spot to secure their team's first hold on the trophy since 1992.

Hard game

Peter Moses coach of Real Mona said the game was a very hard one for his team.

"It was a very tough game for us today (Saturday) after coming off a very hard semi-final against Meadhaven on Thursday. But we played well together as a unit." he said.

Coach of Rea Town, Donavan Evans, was a disappointed man after the game.

"This is biggest loss for my team because we controlled game from the opening whistle, created the chances and just didn't convert them."he said.

"We should have won the game before it even reached extra time but we just didn't finish." he added.
