SPALDINGS, Clarendon:
Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) caretaker for north west Clarendon, Michael Stern, has expressed concern about the continued use of marl quarry stones to build walls and groynes along sections of the Rio Minho in the constituency.
Mr. Stern, who used a project now under way at the Damhead Bridge as an example of this practice, said his concern was because of the continued failure of walls and groynes built with marl stones to stand up to pressure caused by flooding associated with heavy rains.
"Land slippage and the concomi-tant disruption of life for many residents are the inevitable result. The problem is further exacerbated by poor construction practices and little or no maintenance," he said. "This calls into the question the general trend of poor construction practices on the part of the National Works Agency at the public's expense."Mr. Stern has called on the Ministry of Transport and Works to intervene in
the matter.
