THE EDITOR, Sir:
Hundreds of supporters came out to pay their respect to those who have passed and those who are winning the battle against the vicious beast known as cancer. This was at the Jamaica Cancer Society (JCS) fund raiser, 'Relay Life for Life'. It was indeed incredible!
The relay made its inaugural and historic voyage to scenic Turtle Park River in the town of Ocho Rios, on the September 1, 2006. It was the first time that the event was being taken to rural Jamaica. As such, congratulations to all made their worthwhile contribution to make the event a memorable masterpiece.
The JSC and many other organisations like the St. Mary Youth Information Centre is trying to educate the public about the devastating effects of cancer, yet many Jamaicans still fall prey to the cancer 'bullet'.
There are no definite guidelines as how to prevent getting the disease, but we should make regular visits to the doctor, maintain a healthy diet, and minimise usage and exposure to harmful pesticides and intake of salt (sodium chlorine).
