Top CSEC achievers: Peter-Jon lawrence - Exceeded expectations
published: Wednesday | September 6, 2006

Lawrence

Peter-Jon Lawrence of Wolmer's Boys School was expecting to perform well in the 2006 Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations and he did just that when he gained seven ones and two credits (twos).

"I was mostly laughing when I got the news because I was expecting to do well, but I guess I exceeded my expectations," Peter-Jon told The Gleaner yesterday.

Peter-Jon said he could not have been so successful in the examinations, if it were not for his teachers, parents Owen Lawrence and Nelice Hamm and other family members who helped him to get extra materials and encouraged him to do well.

Peter-Jon's aim is to work in the financial sector and he will begin the ground work to that career at Wolmer's upper school where he is expected to pursue economics, information technology, accounts and sociology at the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE) level.

When not studying, Peter-Jon enjoys playing football, surfing the internet and interacting with friends. He was a member of his school's hockey team, while at Wolmer's lower school.

Today's youth

The 17-year-old said today's youth are not taking life as seriously as they ought to. "They need to step up to the plate and realise their full potential and show people what they can do," he said.

He got ones for biology, English language, Spanish, information technology, mathematics, social studies, principles of accounts and twos in English literature and geography.

We want to hear from you!
