$2m 'Ochi' robbery
published: Wednesday | September 6, 2006

OCHO RIOS, St. Ann:

Thieves broke into the regional office of the Jamaica Information Service (JIS) on Milford Road in Ocho Rios, St. Ann, on Monday night, removing over $2 million worth of equipment.

Among the equipment stolen were a multimedia projector, a camcorder and all its accessories, including tripod, a DVD and CD player and a video cassette recorder.

The robbery was discovered by members of staff who turned up for work yesterday morning to find the doors open and the grill damaged.

The robbers gained entry to the office by breaking into the Ocho Rios Branch Library located on the lower floor and then climbed through a window. The thieves also stole a television set from the library.

According to reports reaching The Gleaner, the staff have had to be cancelling a number of engagements due to the loss of equipment.
