IF THERE was ever a bowler Melbourne expected to destroy them in last Saturday's Capital and Credit All-island final it would have been West Indies paceman Daren Powell or even Wavell Hinds, the man who many believe has the golden arm.
However, that was not the case when Kensington played Melbourne at Chedwin Park. The former were dismissed for 200 thus setting what appeared to be an easy target of 201 for the Kangaroos.
After cruising at 130 for two, and with West Indies batsman Marlon Samuels, 49, and former West Indies Under-19 all-rounder Andre McCarthy, also 49, well set at the crease, many, if not all at the ground, called the game in favour of Melbourne. But things quickly took a U-turn and the man behind it was left-arm spinner Dennis Bulli, bowling from the northern end of the park.
Bulli, a former Jamaica Youth player, picked up the wickets of Samuels and McCarthy and turned the match.
Both those batsmen were drawn into drives and ended up being stumped by the reliable Ranville Brown.
Nikita Miller, captain Roman Hutchinson and Yanick Elliott were also victims of Bulli's agonising bowling spell as he turned match-winner for Kensington.
Bulli ended with 5-28 in nine overs and that was good enough to give him The Gleaner Top Performer of the Week.
Bulli was elated with his performance.
"I feel very good about this because right now I am sick and I went out there and put out my all," he said.
