Pothole-infested roadways
published: Tuesday | September 12, 2006

The Editor, Sir:

Aren't citizens of Jamaica who live off the main entitled to good roads too?

Each day many of us walk, ride and drive on pothole-infested roadways which seem to have been struck by asteroids. Inside these craters and trenches are mud-filled puddles that have pedestrians hopping from side to side to avoid sprained ankles and accidental falls. One such road is a district called Ritchies near Spaldings in Clarendon.

This farming community with houses located far off the main has seen increases in transportation costs that far exceed their daily budget. We are losing our shoes, incurring medical expenses, damaging our vehicles and taxi men will not carry us due to the costs that they will incur to repair their damaged vehicles.

I am etc.,

Concerned Citizen

Ritchies district

Spaldings, Clarendon
