Jamaica College (JC) too hot for Oberlin
published: Tuesday | September 12, 2006

Howard Walker, Staff Reporter

Former champions Jamaica College (JC) gave new boys Oberlin High a severe initiation into the ISSA/JN/Pepsi Manning Cup with a 11-0 drubbing in Group E action at Old Hope Road yesterday.

Former national Under-17 player Kaemmar Daley struck four times in the 12th, 15th, 18th and 89th minutes to set up JC's massive victory.

He was ably supported by a double strike from substitute Elvis Watson, while Paul Henry, Dwayne Williams and Revaughn Barnes each got on the scoresheet.

Ironically, Antonie Coubry created history by becoming the first Oberlin player to register a goal in the Manning Cup, but it was against his own team. He twice sliced the ball into his own net either side of the interval in the 32nd and 51st minutes.

Goal difference

JC jumped to the top of a depleted five-team Group E on goal difference ahead of Calabar High. Both teams are on three points, with St George's College and Oberlin on zero with Cumberland yet to play game.

Winning coach Alfred Henry was not satisfied with his team's performance regardless of the scoreline.

"There is not too much to be said because we played a weak team and we got complacent in certain parts of the game. We passed the ball around and that was encouraging. But we need to put away these teams better than this," said Henry.

"It is very difficult to motivate the players to play against a team like Oberlin because everybody wanted to get involved and do their own thing," he noted.

Meanwhile Oberlin's coach Rupert Green, left in a hurry immediately after the game.

In other Manning Cup action Tarrant High welcomed back St Mary's College into the competition with a 6-0 whipping in Group A to go top of the zone.

In Group C action, Innswood clipped St Catherine 1-0, 1995 champion Charlie Smith blanked Penwood 2-0 while Jonathan grant edged Kingston technical 1-0.
