Fair Prospect whip Bogle
published: Wednesday | September 13, 2006

Adrian Frater, News Editor

WESTERN BUREAU:

FAIR PROSPECT, behind five goals from Roger Wilson, gave newcomers Paul Bogle a solid 8-0 baptism yesterday as action kicked off in Zone L of the 2006 ISSA/Pepsi/JN daCosta Cup with four games.

In the other three Zone L games, Titchfield blanked Yallahs 3-0, St. Thomas Technical clipped Happy Grove 2-1 while Port Antonio edged Seaforth 1-0.

In other games across the island, Spaulding blanked Knox 3-0 and Porus and Holmwood drew 0-0 in Zone G while in Zone H, Clarendon College clipped Thompson Town 2-1 while rain forced a premature end to the Lennon versus Edwin Allen game with Lennon leading 1-0 after 72 minutes.

The competition, which started last Saturday with champions Godfrey Stewart clipping Zone C neighbours Mannings 1-0, will continue this afternoon with 17 games, including of eight matches featuring former champions.

Battles to watch

While keen action is anticipated across the board, games such as the Glenmuir's Zone I away clash with Vere Technical, the Zone A showdown between Herbert Morrison and St. James High in Montego Bay; Rusea's Zone B away assignment against Cambridge; and St. Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) Zone E home game against Maggotty should be closely watched by the pundits.

Glenmuir, who were the hottest team last year prior to being tamed in the final by Godfrey Stewart, are in a rebuilding mode but because of the unpredictable nature of schoolboy football, coach Jackie Walters will be playing a wait-and-see game going in matches such as the afternoon contest against Vere Technical.

"We are rebuilding as we are basically seeking to put a team together for the next few years," said coach Walters, whose charge will led by veteran midfielders James Thomas and Tavol Stewart. "However, because schoolboy football is unpredictable, you never know what can happen."

Rusea's, who have failed to make the inter-zone round the past two years, will be gunning for an impressive start against Cambridge as, according to coach Anthony 'Follies' Williams, it is about time that the Rusea's team returned to the glory days.

"Not making the inter-zone round is not our style and we definitely plan to do something about it this year," said Williams, whose team will revolve around the versatile Horace Maxwell and Andre Gillings.

"Our first objective this year is to get to the inter-zone round."
