BRIDGEPORT HIGH fired a six-goal warning to their Group F rivals as they cruised to an emphatic 6-1 mauling of Ardenne High in their Group F ISSA/JN/Pepsi Manning Cup clash at the Ferdie Neita Park yesterday.
Defender Theo Brown struck twice, in the 24th and 36th minutes, and was ably supported by Theolopheus Samuels (fifth), Andin Jarrett (22nd), Andre Steele (54th) and Adrian King (56th).
Consolation goal
Substitute Shane Coore scored a consolation goal for Ardenne in the 79th minute.
Bridgeport jump to the top of Group F with three points and are ahead of Wolmer's Boys on goal difference.
Winning coach Anthony Patrick was not too excited about his team's victory "because Ardenne weren't doing enough".
"Today we never stepped up our game for the whole 90 minutes but nevertheless we came out with a 6-1 victory," said Thompson.
Meanwhile Michael Francis, coach of Ardenne, blamed his team's poor performance on a makeshift team as weak CXC results depleted his squad.
"This is not what we wanted for the start of the season but it is rebuilding for Ardenne. Midway through the programme we lost some key players because of CXC results. The players will have to realise that they have to do well in school to give their team a chance to compete," noted Francis, a former coach of Wolmer's Boys.
Formidable outfit
Bridgeport, the 2001 winners, toyed with Ardenne the entire game and look a formidable outfit for the remainder of the season.
Captain Kenardo Forbes, Steele, Adrian King, Andre Clennan, Gavin Campbell, Theo Brown and Samuels had a field day with their opponents.
It was like a training session for the Bridgeport players. Instead of dribbling around the orange cones placed in strategic spots on the field, they ran around the blue and yellow Ardenne players.
