O God, you are immortal, invisible and all wise. You are eternal. You are the beginning and the end.

Today, we pray for retirees.

We thank you for their contribution to this country, their families and friends. We praise you for the legacy of wisdom they have bequeathed to us.

O Lord, help us to learn from their experiences and expertise.

We confess that too often we have discriminated against the aged. We have discarded our retirees based on diminishing utility value.

Lord we pray for those retirees who struggle with loneliness and uselessness; Those who feel that they have wasted their lives and not accomplished much; Those who are having difficulties making two ends meet based on their pensions and those who have been abandoned by their children and grandchildren.

O God may they find fulfillment in having fought a good fight and having kept the faith.

Hear our prayer O Lord.
