Rev Deonie Duncan ordained
Today, Rev. Deonie Duncan will be ordained as a minister of the Jamaica Baptist Union and inducted as pastor of the Buff Bay Circuit of Baptist churches in a service to be held at 3 p.m. at the Buff Bay Baptist Church, Portland. The guest preacher is Rev. Dr. Burchell Taylor, former president of the Jamaica Baptist Union. The public is invited.
Public Recognition and Commissioning Service
On September 19, there will be a Public Recognition and Commissioning Service for the Rev. Owen Brown at the Unity Baptist Church, Trelawny at 3 p.m. The public is invited.
Dr Alfred Sangster and Dr Dieumeme Noelliste honoured
At the recent Jamaica Theology Seminary's graduation exercise, Dr. Alfred Sangster, former JTS Board member and Dr. Dieumeme Noelliste, former JTS president were honoured for their years of service to the Seminary. This was done in the presence of the 60 graduates who received Bachelor of Arts degrees in Theology and General Studies. Additionally, nine persons received the Joint Board of Teacher Education Diploma in Teaching.
New position for Rev Dr Burchell Taylor
Recently, the Rev. Dr. Burchell Taylor, senior pastor
of the Bethel Baptist Church, Half-Way Tree, was elected to a four-year term as President of the Caribbean Baptist Fellowship. He succeeds Rev. Vincent Wood of Barbados. The first meeting of the new executive will be held next month in the Bahamas.
Counselling courses
The United Theological College of the West Indies Institute of Continuing Studies offers certificate courses in counselling and religious studies. The counselling courses will help students deal with everyday situations while the religious studies course is intended to provide information on biblical background. Classes are held at three centres, namely Kingston, Mandeville and Montego Bay.
New Superintendent of the Lucea Circuit
The Rev'd Clifton Morris who formerly served in the Montego Bay/Mt. Ward Methodist Circuit will be inducted as the new Superintendent of the Lucea Circuit on Sunday, September 17. He succeeds the Rev'd Robert Pierre who moves to the Savanna-la-Mar Circuit from which the Rev'd Hyacinth Mullings retired.
