St George's raring to go against JC
published: Thursday | September 14, 2006

Kwesi Mugisa, Staff Reporter

ST. GEORGE'S College will look to regain their footing following a 3-0 slip to defending champions Calabar in their opener, when they take on Jamaica College in a 3:30 p.m. Manning Cup encounter scheduled for Winchester Park today.

In the sole five-team Group E encounter, St. George's will need to get their season back on track after losing to favourites Calabar.

The battle could possibly be for second place in the group and Jamaica College are already off to a hot start.

"I think we were a bit nervous in our opening encounter, we were a young team playing the defending champions so I think that got to us a little bit," said St. George's coach, Edmund Campbell.

Adjustments

"We made a couple of adjustments to our backline and midfield plus we are at home and the team is feeling confident. We are raring and ready to go for this fixture," Campbell said.

They will certainly need the confidence as they face a Jamaica College team riding on the high of an 11-0 thrashing of Oberlin on their home ground on Monday. However, Jamaica College coach Alfred Henry is wary of overconfidence heading into today's fixture.

"We are just looking to take it one game at a time. We don't know a lot about St George's, so Monday's game isn't really a factor," Henry said.

"We weren't really pushed in our last encounter, so we do not need to make any adjustments. We will just look to go out there and dominate from the start."

In today's other games, Inns-wood will host Jonathan Grant while Charlie Smith visit Kingston Technical in Group C.

In Group A, St. Andrew Technical (STATHS) will be at home against Excelsior while Waterford will host Dunoon Technical.
