Stand up for Jamaica
published: Tuesday | September 19, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I FIND that the Jamaica I left 15 years ago no longer exists. Instead, I see a country whose people have given up. The Government and the economy seem to get worse each and every year. While I love Jamaica, I no longer feel that connection of wanting to come 'home'. The crime rate is at an alarmingly high rate and there are no jobs that would be able to pay to sustain a 'decent' and comfortable lifestyle.

Don't get me wrong, life is no box of chocolate here in America, far from it, but for the most part I can find a job and I'm pretty safe.

Jamaicans need to learn to help each other. Open their minds to different things and stop sabotaging each other because someone else has a different point of view. We need to invest in our children, our school, and economy. Political parties are supposed to serve the people, not the other way around.

I am, etc.,
