Former champions Wolmer's Boys were held to an exciting 1-1 draw by Bridgeport High in their Group F top-of-the -table ISSA/ Pepsi/JN Manning Cup match at Heroes Circle yesterday.

Wolmer's dominated possession in the first half but failed to capitalise on their chances against a very strong Bridgeport defensive unit. It was 0-0 at the break.

Shane Spragg of Wolmer's was shown a second yellow card early in the second half after a reckless tackle on Bridgeport's Theophilus Samuels.

Wolmer's Andre Sharpe fired his team into the lead in the 57th minute. He controlled a beautiful pass from teammate Akeem Brown then ran past two Bridgeport defenders before firing home from close range. Sharpe was at it again five minutes later but his effort was just wide of the target.

Powerful right-footer

Bridgeport's Ricardo Martin capitalised on a mistake by Wolmer's custodian Jamie Roberts to rifle home a powerful right-footer in the 73rd minute to give his team a share of the points.

Vassel Reynolds, coach of Wolmer's, said he was disappointed with the way his team played.

" We didn't play particularly well in the first half, but the second half we started to play some good football and we scored a goal." he said.

Bridgeport's Anthony Patrick was unhappy with his team's performance.

"We had a very disappointing game today but nevertheless we came away with a point playing away from home and I am thankful for that," he said.
