Guyana complete back-to-back wins
published: Tuesday | September 19, 2006

CHARLESTOWN (CMC):

Neil McGarrell produced a fine allround performance and led Guyana to a four-wicket victory over St. Kitts and Nevis in their Twenty20 fixture under lights at Grove Park on Sunday night.

Batting first, St. Kitts and Nevis scored 105 for nine off 20 overs and Guyana replied with 106 for six off 18.1 overs to complete back-to-back wins on the weekend trip that coincided with the Nevis National Heroes' Day celebrations.

Second win

Guyana achieved the target with just under two overs to spare for their second straight win.

Orin Forde top-scored with 25, backed up by Christian (24) and McGarrell's quickfire 18 not out, to put the issue beyond doubt.

McGarrell copped the Man-of-the Match Award and US$200.

The Guyanese take home US$5,000 for their week-end's work that started with a five-wicket win over Nevis.

Dowlin had lashed 54 not out on Saturday for the Guyanese (108-5) to defeat Nevis (102-8) with more than four overs to spare.

Simmonds, Byron, Jeffers and Maynard each took home a 27-inch television set from the local firm S&L Horsford Ltd. for the top local bowler and batsman on each night.

Jeffers, Simmonds and Christian got cash awards for sixes hit.

The Guyanese spin trio of McGarrell, Narsingh Deonarine and Mahendra Nagamootoo combined for seven wickets to reduce the St. Kitts and Nevis innings.
