A JAMAICAN CONTINGENT, which comprises Peter Rae, Mark Minott and young Matthew Williams, will leave the island this afternoon for Wisconsin, in the United States, where it will make another attempt to qualify for the Go-Kart World Championship which is scheduled to take place in Portugal later this year.

The three-day event, which starts on Friday, will be held at the El Kart Lake motorsport track. The Jamaicans will be in action on Friday and Saturday. Rae and Minott will compete in the Rotax Masters Class while Williams will contest the Rotax Mini-Max Class.

Promising youngster

Another Jamaican, Timothy Stewart, who had departed a week earlier to get acclimatised to the track, will participate in the Rotax Junior Class. Stewart, who attends Hillel Academy, has been one of the most promising youngsters competing in this class. Based on his local track record, a lot is expected of him at this weekend's meet.

"We are going all out to qualify for the world championship," said Rae, whose kart is being sponsored by Magnetic Signs.

With the exception of Stewart, all the other karters will be renting karts to compete at the three-day event.

Three months ago, the Jamaicans travelled to the Moroso Motorsport Park in West Palm Beach, Florida, where they participated in a meet.
