Car-pooling solves toll fuss
published: Thursday | September 21, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Mr. Editor, my unselfish neighbour and I share the cost of toll of $60 from Portmore to Kingston every morning, both of us pay only $30.

There is a continuous fracas by Portmore residents that the toll is way too high. Car-pooling ends the pandemonium. Travelling in a car with three passengers, toll cost per person - $20. For bigger vehicles that can hold more than three people, there would be a substantial reduction for each person, beating the exorbitant toll charge.

Boycotting the toll is not worth it, car-pooling will end the fuss. The only monster of a problem now is the recurring traffic pile-up in the mornings and the peak afternoon congestion.

The bottle-neck at Portmore Mall and Marcus Garvey Drive entering and exiting the so-called highway should not be a problem. I thought they did the groundwork; the multimillion-dollar project seems to be going up in smoke. Is this another 'Operation Pride waste?

I am, etc.,
