Librans at large
published: Friday | September 22, 2006

Chester Francis-Jackson, Contributor

So, my dears, it's full speed ahead, and the partying continues between Port Antonio and Negril, and baby-dolls, with such passion! Oh the rush! The sheer fun of it! Sadly however, today marks the end of Virgo, giving way to the age of Libra. But for my word, it has been a fantastic Virgo season, chock-full of parties and what an august body of celebrants! Sweet things, pass the mimosa!

Gabrielle's Fourth Birthday

And as the curtain comes down we say a very happy and belated birthday to the young Gabrielle Seaga, the darling daughter of the Most Hon. Edward and Carla Seaga, who celebrated her birthday, last Saturday!

There were all of four candles on the cake, and the birthday wishes not only poured in from all across the island, they poured in from around the globe. In fact, many actually thought that young Gabrielle's birthday was last Friday, and birthday calls started pouring in from that morning, only to be repeated on Saturday.

Not to worry, it was all in good fun and very well intentioned. No party here however, only a family do as it was all about getting ready for school for young Gabrielle.

Now, today being the Friday, the doyenne of print media, R. Christene King, of the Sunday Herald Pure Class Magazine, celebrates her birthday. No spa day here for this fashion belissima, but the party is slated for her favourite Friday evening lyme, and the buzz is it will be all that, and then some!

Also celebrating today, is chef extraordinaire, the much celebrated Mario Machado of Mac's Chop House, that fab little restaurant in New Kingston, and here it will be premium libations all the way!

David Manley

Now, godling David Manley, the son of late political giant Michael Manley and the flawless former political firebrand, now celebrated radio talk show hostess, the oh-so fab, Beverley Anderson-Manley, celebrated on Wednesday. Legal powerhouse Paula Llewellyn, celebrated yesterday, so did cricketer, Chris Gayle.

But what a divine season it has been! My dears, stories to tell, but long bench nuh dey yah, but cheers all-around and champagne toasts, y'all, and Beluga treats!

So let Libra begin!

Tomorrow with much fanfare as the Librans, not to be outdone by their fanciful Virgos, are all set to take the social swirl by fabulous storm, beginning on Sunday when Kingston's high-fashion designer, the oh so talented Bill Edwards of the Bill Edwards clothing line, kicks off the season with an expected fab little soiree.

Dovecakes, expect a fashionable number here, as Edwards is not only one of Kingston's premier fashion designers, making hot garbs for some of the nation's leading personalities. He has been voted one hot bachelor too!

He first served here some 20 or so years ago and since then has gone across the globe before landing right back here in Kingston. Now, on the protocol list, he is naturally outranked by the Chief of Mission, and Deputy Chief, etc., but in the minds of most Jamaicans, he is the most important man in the embassy, making him the man!

And the man is: Edward J. Wehrli. Now, he is as charming as he is eloquent. His wife as equally charming, but almost in a shy, almost kind of a way, but Edward and Rose Wehrli, do make for a wonderfully charming couple, and since arriving here just over three weeks ago, they have been settling nicely and making friends, as they get into the swing of things.

And with Thailand being his last posting, upon learning that he was being transferred to Kingston, Jamaica, his friends and colleagues in government and the foreign service in Thailand, advised him that once he gets to Jamaica, he must look up their Honorary Consul General here, social empress and businesswoman, Thalia Lyn.

Well my daahlings, they have and so Kingston will be that the richer for their arrival, and so we say welcome to U.S. Consul General, Edward Wehrli, and his fabulous wife, Rose Wehrli.

Tickets are Out

Now, the invitations and tickets are out, and Kingston is going gaga, as it promises to be an exciting evening, come Monday. It will be all about Akbar Indian Restaurant on Ruthven Road, in New Kingston, as the city's premier Indian restaurant has teamed with Chris and Kerri-Anne Reckord, of DeVine to host 'A Gastronomic Evening of Fine Wine and Indian cuisine.' They promise an experience beyond the ordinary for patrons and guests. Co-owners of Akbar, Rajiv Bakshi and Anil Kapoor are putting on an esoteric encounter of the flawless order, with a fare of the highest order, representing the very best of Indian cuisine!

This is a must as the pairing of wines and Indian and or Jamaican cuisine, represents more than a challenge for the gourmands among our ranks.
