Former politician slain by gunmen
published: Saturday | September 23, 2006

Forty-year-old businessman and former politician Dennis Wright, of Fuel Crescent in May Pen, Clarendon, was killed by two gunmen while on his way to work yesterday morning.

Mr. Wright had also served in the Constabulary Force for three years before resigning in the late 1980s.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police in charge of Clarendon, Cleon Marsh, the businessman was chased to his home by the men who shot him several times.

Previous attack

Relatives of Mr. Wright told The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre that he had also been attacked by gunmen on Tuesday night.

According to them, the men fired several shots at him while he was returning home.

Member of Parliament for Central Clarendon, Mike Henry, said Mr. Wright was preparing to relocate to the United States in a few weeks and was assisting the Jamaica Labour Party in finding a suitable replacement.

He had resigned his political post three weeks ago.

Mr. Wright lost his bid for councillor for the May Pen West division in the last local government elections.

Relatives of Mr. Wright told The Gleaner/Power 106 News that he had also been attacked by gunmen on Tuesday night.
