Bad journalism
published: Monday | September 25, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Your report on the Jamaica Broilers Fair Play Awards omitted the fact that Darien Henry of IRIE FM was the only reporter from radio who won an award - the second place award in the Electronic News category. The judges' comments made it clear that Mr. Henry's work was significant.

There were four cash awards, three of which you mentioned - CVM winning the top electronic award and the Sunday Herald the top print award. The third prize which you also mentioned, went to The Gleaner. The other was to Mr. Henry.

The omission is bad journalism especially since you reported on lesser prizes, such as the certificates of commendation, and yet did not mention a prize winner.

I am, etc.,

FRANKLIN McKNIGHT
