published: Monday | September 25, 2006

Rasbert Turner, Gleaner Writer

Spanish Town, St. Catherine:

The Police have taken into custody 25-year-old Sheldon Bent who was being sought for the murder of police Constable Richard Taylor.

According to Superintendent Harry Daley, Bent was picked up in Annotto Bay, St. Mary, by the police in that area. Supt. Daley said the apprehension of the wanted man resulted from continued collaboration islandwide by law enforcement officers.

Bent was on the weekend escorted by detectives of the St. Catherine North Police Division to the Spanish Town lock-up where he was waiting to be formally charged.

Three days after he went missing on Septenber 3, Constable Taylor was said to be seen in the company of Bent. The police subsequently retrieved Taylor's body from a hole near the Worthy Park Sugar Estate in St. Catherine.

Taylor was a six-year member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
