He's sold countless inspirational books, worked with some of the world's largest companies and travelled the globe giving motivational speeches, but whenever he comes back home to Frankfield, Clarendon, his neighbours still expect him to come over for Sunday dinner.

"They all say I must come and even sleep over. If I don't, then it's worries!" said Alvin Day, as he autographed a copy of his latest book, Persuasion Power, for a young woman at the Sangster's Book Stores, Sovereign Centre yesterday.

Tour, speeches

Mr. Day is in the country for a two-week book promotion tour and to give a number of speeches. Tomorrow, he will be at the Knutsford Court Hotel in New Kingston for a fund-raising event for the Peace and Love in Society (PALS) programme.

"It's a short visit, but we're trying to get the most out of it," he said.

Mr. Day, who now lives in Florida, was at the book store for only two hours, but during that time, a number of his fans turned up to get their hands on the author's new book, .

"They've been coming and we've been chatting and I've autographed quite a few books," he said.

Scholarship fund

He visits the island whenever he can and this time around, Mr. Day will be making an extra stop. He'll be visiting his alma mater, Knox College where he will be launching a scholarship fund for 20 needy students.

"It's something that I'm very passionate about. The stories are sometimes painful. Students who cannot afford books or who have to go without lunch money," he said. "We're just trying to help out."

Mr. Day has worked with companies such as Johnson & Johnson, Colgate, Procter & Gamble, Nabisco and Esso. He leaves the island on October 5.
