Daley sees red
published: Tuesday | September 26, 2006

DALEY

ROCHESTER, New York (CMC):

Jamaica international Omar Daley was sent off during Charleston Battery's United Soccer League's (USL) semi-final series road match against Rochester Rhinos on Friday night at Paetec Park.

Rochester won the match 1-0 and Daley missed the return fixture on Sunday night at Charleston's home Blackbaud Stadium that ended 0-0, resulting in his team's elimination.

With two minutes left in the first half of Friday night's match, the Battery suffered a crucial blow as Daley was ejected from the game after receiving a second yellow card for a sliding challenge from behind.

Rochester got their winning goal in the 52nd minute when midfielder Gregory Howes lashed a ferocious shot from 20 yards out that beat Dustin Hudock in Charleston's goal.

Rochester protected their advantage well in the second leg on Sunday night and advanced to the final with the scoreless result.

Glinton also had an early chance Sunday, but his seventh-minute glancing header went wide.

Trinidad and Tobago's forward Teba McKnight came on as a substitute for Charleston in both matches.

In the championship final on Saturday at Paetec Park, Rochester will tackle the Vancouver Whitecaps, who defeated the Montreal Impact 2-0 in the other semi-final series.

After a 0-0 draw Friday night at Swangard Stadium, Vancouver snatched an extra-time 2-0 win on Sunday at Montreal's Claude-Robillard Stadium.

Former Impact player Eduardo Sebrango scored in the 115th minute of play, and midfielder Tony Donatelli completed the score five minutes later, moments before the final whistle.
