The politics of old days
published: Wednesday | September 27, 2006

The Editor, Sir:

Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller's speech at the final session of the PNP conference left me bewildered. Can anyone in their right mind say this was an excellent speech? In my mind, it lacked substance and smacked of a high level of arrogance. I refuse to sit back and allow my country to sink deeper and deeper into despair.

At no point in Prime Minister Simpson Miller's address did she give the slightest impression that she intends to turn Jamaica around. Instead, she largely focused on unfairly 'cussing' the Opposition, JLP, and puffing up failed ministers. Further yet, her announcement of a $635 million clean-up programme is a gross waste of scarce public resources. After the six months of 'cleaning up' what will happen? This programme only reinforced my view that Prime Minister Simpson Miller has, in contrast to her pronouncements, gone back to the politics of the old days.

I am imploring sensible Jamaicans to reject this drivel of a Prime Minister and seek to unite and get this ruling administration to go through the exit door.

I am, etc.,
