Saddam trial judge's brother-in-law killed
Gunmen killed a brother-in-law of the new judge trying Saddam Hussein and badly wounded the man's wife and son, in what the Iraqi government said yesterday was a direct attack on the court by Saddam's followers.

School principal shot by former student

A recently expelled student armed with a shotgun and at least one other gun shot and wounded the principal of his former school in western Wisconsin yesterday, authorities said.

The gunman who took six girls hostage in a high school classroom, killing one of them before taking his own life, sent his brother a long, rambling letter warning of his impending death, investigators said yesterday.
