Solving the problem of political tribalism
published: Saturday | September 30, 2006

The Editor, Sir:

The reactive nature of the PMI under the leadership of Bishop Herro Blair must seek to develop the capacity to be investigative and proactive in assisting to solve the problem of political tribalism in this country. The walking through communities with a desire to get the warring factions to talk is definitely not going to help.

For too long, we have been communicating with criminals and putting band-aid over a sore that needs surgery. In most cases, those who we are getting to talk are hardened criminals who are guilty of the plunder and murder of our citizens.

Thorough investigation

We must begin a thorough investigation of the dealings of all Members of Parliament to determine whether they are connected with criminality and criminal elements and move to bar them from politics if they are so guilty. The community must also come under investigation to determine the level of cover-ups that are taking place and find those who are criminally involved. The law must be given teeth, and until this is done and the 'big' and 'small' man are made to pay for their acts of criminality we are going nowhere quickly.

To the PMI, I say get your act together, as walks are not going to bring about permanence to peace. We MUST get out the criminals whether they are politicians or ordinary citizens and let decent citizens live in peace. It is a coward who takes a gun and maims his brother and a spineless leader who pretends that all is well.

I am, etc.,
