published: Monday | October 2, 2006

George Proctor, an 86-year-old consultant botanist at the University of the West Indies, is to be tried in the Home Circuit Court on December 4.

He is charged jointly with his driver Glenford Pellington with conspiracy to murder.

The Crown is alleging that Proctor allegedly paid Pellington $90,000 to murder his 66-year-old wife.

Proctor, a respected botanist who has been living in Jamaica for more than 50 years, is considered an authority, on Jamaica's flora.

The trial date was fixed when the men appeared in court on Friday.
