NWA officer off on scholarship in UK

Chevening Scholar 2006, Alicia Gayle, recently departed the island en route to the United Kingdom. She will pursue a master of science degree in geographical information systems (GIS) at the prestigious University of Leicester. GIS makes it possible to investigate and solve geographically-related problems using technology.

The British Council offered Alicia this scholarship, which will help her fulfil her ambition. She is a graduate of the Montego Bay High School, where she attained eight subjects in the CXC/CSEC examinations and one subject in GCE. She went on to Hampton High in Malvern, St. Elizabeth, and was successful in three subjects at the GCE A'level and one at CXC/CAPE.

HONOURS GRADUATE

Gayle graduated with honours from the University of the West Indies in 2002 with in a bachelor of arts degree.

She is on one year's study leave from the National Works Agency, where she held the position of geographic information systems officer.

Alicia is the daughter of Collene Samuels of the Half Moon Hotel and businessman Maurice Gayle.
