In front of a live studio audience at Television Jamaica, Miguel Walters, Alpheus O. Johnson and Adrian Campbell, better known as the group One Third, emerged as the victors of the Rising Stars 2006 Competition, bringing the popular talent contest to a climax.
One Third is the first group to win the Digicel-sponsored Rising Stars Competition. The group's harmony gained popularity with the song Homely Girl, winning them a management contract with Shocking Vibes talent agency, a $1 million cash prize, $500,000 worth of calling credit and Samsung telephones.
Nickeisha Barnes, 25-year-old songbird and past student of Holy Childhood High School, was first runner-up. She secured her position by her rendition of Alicia Keys' song, Karma, to woo the audience. She won a cash prize of $600,000 plus $200,000 worth of call credit from Digicel and a Samsung telephone.
One Third was thrilled with their success, while Nickeisha took her defeat graciously. According to Rising Stars judge Anthony Miller, she grew the most during the contest.
