Give back the blood money!
published: Sunday | October 8, 2006

The Editor, Sir:

Where does the PNP get off talking about how much it cares for poor people? My heart cried out when I saw the images online. Babies with massive blisters and peeling skin as a result of the toxic petroleum sludge which was dumped by Trafigura in the dirtpoor city of Abidjan in Africa. It is blood money the PNP has taken and we the people of Jamaica demand that they give it back. We are not for sale! We don't want any blood money. Children have died and will quite likely continue to die because of the evil deed of Trafigura.

Imagine, just because they would have to spend more to dispose of their waste properly in Europe, they choose poor Africa as their dumping ground. It is acts like these which allow Trafigura to afford to give so many millions of dollars.

If she has any heart and if she really cares about poor people, she would give it back. Does winning the election mean so much to her? After all, she has been in politics for 30 years now, can't she be satisfied with what she has accomplished to date? How can our Prime Minister sleep at night knowing that poor black people are dying while she enjoys the ill-gotten money that helped to cause their death?

I am, etc.,
