Dr. Winsome Thompson-Clarke, a Jamaican, named 2006 alumna of the year at Andrews University, Berrien Springs, Michigan. - Contributed

Dr. Winsome Thompson-Clarke, an alumna of the United States' State Department's International Visitor Leadership Programme (IVLP) in 1997, received the prestigious 2006 alumna award from Andrews University, in Berrien Springs, Michigan.

The Andrews University Alumni Association Medallion is presented to honoured alumni who have been nominated by fellow alumni and approved by the alumni board of directors to be recipients of this award.

Honoured alumni are selected on the basis of outstanding service to the university, unusual achievement in a profession or occupation, and contributions to the community or church.

A past student of St. Hugh's High School and the Jamaica School of Music, Dr. Thompson-Clarke pursued both bachelor's and master's degrees in music and education at Andrews University, and a doctorate in educational administration at Ohio University.

She taught at St. Mary High School in Highgate and then worked at the Ministry of Education for several years.

Dr. Thompson-Clarke has been included in Who Is Who publications in the U.S., London and the Caribbean.

Recently retired, she now runs her music studio in St. Andrew, and is a lay magistrate.
