The Editor, Sir:
The recent happenings in the political arena are of concern to me as a young person. It seems to me that there are individuals who are determined to take us back to the gutter/dirty politics that happened in the 1980s, with the recent violent occurrences in the Mountain View area. We the young people in 'Jamaica Land We Love' are not willing to go through that kind of dilemma over politics.
Firstly, let's look at the issue of the announcement by the Prime Minister that the poor will be provided with temporary jobs. Everyone made a deal out of something that cannot do any harm, but yet the persons who are not poor don't have an issue with it. And when are our leaders going to have some respect for each other? Members of the House should show the utmost respect to the Most Honourable Prime Minister.
Just recently, there was a censure motion against the Opposition member Karl Samuda and instead of debating the issue, the Opposition saw it fit to level accusations against the government. They should have sat in the House and debated the censure motion, and at an appropriate time, brought the matter of irregular government spending to the House.
With an election looming, both parties should put their issues on the table so that the electorate can decide who to vote for.
I am etc.,
