RUSSIA: Thousands file past body of slain journalist
MOSCOW (Reuters) Thousands of mourners, including Western ambassadors, gathered yesterday at the funeral of Anna Politkovskaya, a prominent reporter and critic of President Vladimir Putin whose murder fuelled international condemnation.

CHINA: Gov't rules out war with N Korea, but not sanctions

BEIJING (Reuters): China declined yesterday to rule out possible United Nations sanctions against North Korea for carrying out a reported nuclear test but said any military action was unimaginable.


IRAQ- Police find 60 bodies in Baghdad

BAGHDAD (Reuters): Iraqi police found 60 bodies dumped across Baghdad in the 24 hours until yesterday morning, the apparent victims of sectarian death squads blamed for escalating violence that threatens to pitch the country into civil war.


NIGERIA: Vice-president charged with corruption at special court

ABUJA, Nigeria (AP): Nigerian vice-president Atiku Abubakar was charged yesterday at a special anti-graft court with more than a dozen counts of corruption stemming from his alleged diversion of US$125 million of public funds to private interests.
