Stultz gives newcomers second win
published: Thursday | October 12, 2006

Anthony Foster, Freelance Writer

DAVID STULTZ scored in both halves to carry promoted August Town to their second win of the National Wray and Nephew Premier League season, beating Wadadah 2-1 at UWI, Mona Bowl, yesterday.

August Town moved to seven points from four matches while Wadadah remain on six points.

Stultz scored the game's opening goal when he headed home a Nicholas Smith cross and wrapped up August Town's win by beating advancing goalkeeper Gavin Bennett to score from a long pass made by Keneil Flowers.

However, six minutes before that 89th-minute strike, Stultz missed two easy chances, first by kicking wide and then heading over the bar, both from within the six-yard box.

Jermaine Anderson, who tormented August Town's defence, had earlier scored Wadadah's equaliser from a goalmouth scramble.

Anderson, who in the first half had a goal disallowed, used the top half of his body to score his team's goal from inside after the goalkeeper mis-read the play.

End-to-end action

The game was full of action from end to end, but near the end, Rohan Reid had himself to blame after missing an open goal which would have made the ride home a better one for Wadadah.

August Town's coach, Christopher Bender, gave credit to his team for a tough win.

"It was a tough game - credit to the players, they played very well," Bender said. "On the run of play, we created more chances."

Anthony 'Follies' Williams, Wadadah's coach, said the late arrival at the ground affected his team.

When asked to describe his team's performance, Williams said: "We were our own destruction."

"If we arrive at quarter to three for a three o'clock game, it's always going to be difficult, "However, if you look at the chances we created, we should have won the game," he said.
