The Editor, Sir:
So Colin Campbell is made to fall on his own sword for the inept handling of political gifts. Oh, the pity of it Iago, the pity of it! This time around he was doing a great job as Information Minister.
There is a lot more rotting in the state of Denmark than just the moral blunder of the PNP in accepting and making it known that they had, in fact, received a gift from a donor who would have preferred to remain anonymous and would ostensibly do anything, including stating that it was a business transaction, in order to appease its European whips.
Rotting indictment
That the Opposition JLP has a rich tradition of unearthing scandals only when they smell an election is also a rotting indictment. They are paid out of public purse to keep the Government in check during its term of office. It is only when an election draws nigh that they attempt to heap scandals upon scandals, some of which, if they were doing their job in the first place, could have been prevented.
Bruce's Machiavellian tactics of attempting to win state power involve condoning a serious breach in fiduciary practice; and exposing his source to the full arm of the law to further his own political interests. He allows his political cahoots to spurn the law and damage the image and integrity of a financial institution in the national interest! He must think we are fools.
What he has succeeded in doing is making us even more cynical about politicians, government and governance than we already were, and that translates into LESS VOTES. No doubt the next poll will show that the category of the uncommitted has grown wider.
I am, etc.,
