They hailed from all parts of Jamaica; each one making his/her own definitive contribution to the country.

Yesterday, His Excellency The Most. Hon. Prof. Kenneth Hall, Governor-General of Jamaica, presented 113 persons with National Honours and Awards. Among them were members of the judiciary, sports, law enforcement, business, music and just about every conceivable sector of Jamaican life. One by one they went up to receive not just their awards, but for some, their long overdue recognition. Time has slowed some of them now; walking sticks and wheelchairs their only mobility. But on Heroes Day, they stood tall.

Staff photographer Norman Grindley captured some of the sights at this august occasion.
