It was a day full of memories and joy as many families, friends and football fans turned out in their numbers at yesterday's 20th anniversary of the Heroes Day Bell-Zaidie Memorial match at Winchester Park, St. George's College.

Keeping with tradition, six people were also honoured for their contribution to the sport, at the event. They are Denzil Lue for outstanding contribution to football as an administrator; Carton 'Cello' Williams for outstanding contribution and service to community football; Linclon 'Happy' Sutherland for outstanding contribution to football as an administrator; Larry Wynter for outstanding contribution as a player; Horace Lewis for outstanding contribution to football as a administrator and Marsden Chen for outstanding contribution to football as a player.

Proud about turn-out

Organiser of the event, Clive 'Busy' Campbell, was happy with the day's proceedings.

"I am very proud with the turn-out. It was a joy to see youngsters and adult coming to support the Bell/Ziadie Memorial, I am really feeling good today" he said of the well attended match.

It is held in honour of former administrator Winthorpe 'Jackie' Bell and coach Dennis Ziadie who died while they were at the World Cup Finals in Maxico in 1986, in a motor vehicle accident.

The clash between the Masters and Celebrities team going against St. George's College Old Boys' Invitational, ended 5-2 in favour of the former.

Wayne Whonder scored a double for the Masters and Celebrities team. Other scorers were former national footballer Richard Murray, former West Indies captain Jimmy Adams and national track star Jermaine Gonzales, while top entertainer Wayne Marshall and Ken Ellis scored for the St. George's Invitational team.
