PNP ignores the hard questions
published: Thursday | October 19, 2006

The Editor, Sir:

It seems like the ruling party has learned a lot from President George W. Bush - how to say you've won when you've lost, right down to his ridiculous rhetoric. They continue to shock and awe us.

We're shocked that such a serious matter as Trafigura can be treated in such a nonchalant manner with none of the members of the People's National Party (PNP) standing up and even trying to answer the serious questions asked.

We're in awe (fear) of their commitment to put everything PNP above country and the people of Jamaica.

K.D. Knight, referred to by another writer as the PNP jester, was laughable - but frighteningly so. Dressed in full court regalia in Parliament, he simply failed to differentiate morality from criminality. Someone needs to give that man a reality check.

Omar and Peter did the expected, talk about breach of banking regulations but they couldn't even convince themselves.

But it was the Prime Minister, finally out of hiding, who shocked and awed most.

After two weeks of silence we expected that she would have had more than enough time to study the matter and understand what, as the leader of the country, she needed to do.

Instead she shocked the entire nation by still not seeming to understand and still not saying anything. That is even after she arrived in Parliament at the 11th hour when it was all virtually over.

How can Portia expect us to take her seriously when she can't even get to important meetings on time?

How can she expect us to take her seriously when as the leader she hides from hard questions? Jamaica deserves much better.

I am, etc.,
