Road works for Mount Rosser
published: Thursday | October 19, 2006

The National Works Agency (NWA) is scheduled to start major improvement work on the Mount Rosser main road in St. Catherine, within another month.

Stephen Shaw, communications and customer service manager at the NWA, said plans for a project to improve 18 curves along a 1.6 kilometre stretch of roadway are now being finalised.

The Mount Rosser main road is a major link between Kingston and the North Coast. Motorists have often been faced with extended delays due to broken down vehicles or accidents when traveling on the roadway.

Mr. Shaw said the NWA has recognised the problem and intends to have significant change within the next 10 months, through a budget of $20 million.

He said the project seeks to reduce the likelihood of some accidents, by improving the radius of 18 curves, as well as improve the horizontal alignment and drainage of the roadway. Several pieces of retaining walls will also be constructed and sections of the roadway reinstated.
