West Indies move up
published: Saturday | October 21, 2006

MUMBAI, India (CMC):

West Indies have edged up one place to No.7 in the ICC One-day International rankings, following their 10-run victory over World champions Australia at the ICC Champions Trophy on Wednesday.

This is the only major change among the top eight sides in the world, with England dropping down to the No.8 position, just ahead of Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. Ramnaresh Sarwan, who led West Indies on the field during the match because of an injury to regular captain Brian Lara, believes the Caribbean side executed their plans well.

"In our plan, we wanted to get a total in the region of 220 to 230 because that is a total you could actually defend," he said. "The way the pitch at the Brabourne Stadium has been playing - deteriorating as the game progressed - I thought we executed pretty well.

"We beat the Australians last month in Kuala Lumpur, so it was a matter of keeping the momentum going, the win was no surprise for us."
