Horrific Pedro Plains road
published: Monday | October 23, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

The neglect that has been endured by south coast tourism for so long will be dramatically exposed after the forthcoming seasonal rains and before the winter tourist season begins.

At that time, the road from Pedro Cross to Treasure Beach, which has seen little improvement for several years, will finally have to be closed to vehicular traffic. In places at present, it is necessary to drive at a snail's pace over the jagged surface damaged by past hurricanes. Now an additional stretch of road has been gouged out sufficiently that any further rainfall will make it impassable.

Frequent appeals to the relevant authorities have proven fruitless. Treasure Beach establishments have even had to repair the Pedro Plains Police Station's vehicles more than once because of damage caused by the surface of the road.

The only hope is that, with an election pending, the sitting member or even his opponent will be able to win the hearts, minds and votes of the Pedro Plains' residents by rehabilitating the road, even temporarily as has been the case in the past.

I am, etc.,

ANTHONY A. GAMBRILL
