Surety pays $200,000 bond
published: Monday | October 23, 2006

A surety who was taken into custody on Wednesday night after the man he bailed absconded, was released after he paid the $200,000 bond.

Gregory Clarke, also called 'Andy', of Ricketts Crescent, Kingston 13, who is charged with carnal abuse, should have appeared in the Home Circuit Court on Wednesday for his trial.

When the trial was ready to proceed, Clarke was not present. Mr. Justice Martin Gayle (acting) was told that Clarke was seen earlier at the courthouse.

The judge issued a bench warrant for Clarke and also ordered that the surety be brought to court. The court was informed Thursday that the police went to Clarke's house and was told that he was in Clarendon.

Albert Josiah Henry, who bailed Clarke, was taken into custody and was released Thursday after the $200,000 was paid.

When he is apprehended, Clarke will have to remain in custody until his trial.

It is alleged that on March 26, 2004, Clarke sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl.
