Clarendon dethrone Glenmuir
published: Monday | October 23, 2006

Adrian Frater, News Editor

Western Bureau:

Clarendon College made the biggest statement in Saturday's quarter-final matches in the 2006 Ben Francis Cup knockout competition when they ended Glenmuir's reign as champions with a big 3-0 win in their game at Brancourt in Clarendon.

The red-hot Clarendon College were joined in the competition's semi-final round by Titchfield, which scored an emphatic 3-0 win over Charlemont at Carder Park, Portland; and the Westmoreland duo of Petersfield, which clipped William Knibb 1-0 at Jarrett Park, and Frome Technical, which had a 2-1 extra-time win over Munro College at the St. Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) grounds.

In the semi-final games slated for Wednesday, Petersfield and Frome Technical will clash in a Westmoreland derby while in the other game, Titchfield and Clarendon College will clash in what promises to be an epic showdown.

Match-up at STETHS

In the match-up at STETHS, Frome Technical suffered an early setback when they lost Kevon Wynter to a suspected broken leg.

However, after taking an early second-half lead through Keswick Samuels, they let Munro back in the game when they conceded an own-goal, which resulted in regulation time ending 1-1.

Rohan Watson ensured that Frome would be in the semi-finals when he scored in the first period of extra-time, which was enough to give them a 2-1 win.

"Munro played as well as we had expected but we were always confident of coming out the winner today," said Boysie Nicholson, the coach of the Frome team. "We are confident that based on our offensive strength, we will not only win in the semi-final but will take the title as well."
