The Editor, Sir:
As a citizen of Jamaica, I have mixed emotions about this so-called Trafigura scandal. In my humble opinion, the JLP, like any other party in this country, will be affected by this.
All the big companies (private) that donate millions of dollars to their selected party should be worried that somehow their donations will be also leaked. I am wondering if Mr. Golding, in his excitement to expose this transaction, thought about the repercussions that this dilemma will also have on his campaign.
What about the clients of banks who are worried that their personal financial information for a price or other reasons can be told to Tom, Dick and Harry? It has always bothered me when I hear about individuals withdrawing money being held up outside these same institutions. One would have to think that it must be within the walls of these very same banks that this information is leaked to someone on the outside.
In my opinion, they are all guilty of under-the-table transactions. The minister or Opposition members who can raise their hands to affirm that they have never taken money under questionable circumstances must raise their hands. I am sure that quite a few will, but within themselves, they know that it is all a farce.
Everyone is interested in the scandal, but what about the act or breach that it has caused the scandal? Isn't it just as gross as the scandal?
I am, etc.,
