The Editor, Sir:
That institutions of slavery and colonisation in all their forms have been shown to have as their main object the enrichment of a few at the expense of the prosperity and human rights and dignity of the majority, I submit that unfettered contributions to political parties should be funded essentially by the state, supplemented by guided contributions as provided by regulations.
What has been described as the Trafigura scandal is only a very small thread in the fabric of almost global runnings through political contributions, and all those who seek to use this minuscule thread as a paltform to gain political power have been doing more disservice to the good name of Jamaica than anyone else and their petty action must amuse the enlightened on the planet.
Could Mr. Golding and his team focus on legislation on financial contributions and could all legal proceedings arising out of the exposure be discontinued? And could Mr. Samuda just say, 'I am sorry' and continue his very, very good and generally greatly appreciated work?
Let there be peace, love and forgiveness.
I am, etc.,
