Stop digging holes
published: Wednesday | October 25, 2006

The Editor, Sir:

We are tired of hearing all our ministers of government tell us about limited resources, (of government) e.g. Minister Pickersgill saying there is no money to fix potholes etc., while at the same time creating and spending valuable productive time trying to defend corruption after corruption. But if all the ministers collectively agree on non-productive policies and to borrow and beg, then they cannot be surprised that there is no money to run the country. After all, an elementary school child could predict this outcome when inept policies are implemented. So this pleading from our ministers is as much an insult to our intelligence as it is an affirmation of their ineptitude.

The first lesson of being in a hole is to stop digging. So let good governance begin! Let us start policies to manage and grow our economy and put a lid on wasteful borrowing, spending, cost over-runs and corruptions. Nearly all our neighbours are experiencing GDP growth of six to eight per cent and we are forever mired in decline. Every year they promise robust economic growth, but there is a decline. Yet we have these same incumbents in position for years.

I am, etc.,

BERT RAMSEY
